removing propeller shaft past skeg on C33 MK1

I have a C33 hull#93 with Volvo Penta MD 11 D engine.  I need to replace propeller shaft.

Is it possible to remove the shaft and cutlass bearing on a C33 without the skeg interfering? If skeg does get in the way is is possible then to cut old shaft into pieces, remove it then remove old cutlass and re-install new shaft and cutlass without having to move engine out of the way? Thank you.

There is a nice article about this on the CYOC website in the Technical section. You will need to remove the rudder but you don't have to mess with the skeg. At least, not too much ..  ;-)

 In this case the entire shaft log was removed with no engine to block removal and still does not address the skeg. I plan only to replace bad shaft and cutlass bearing without the need to remove engine hopefully. Rudder is hung on skeg and is not a factor on C33. Has anybody removed their shaft on a C33?  Thanks in advance for any experience.

If it's just the shaft it shouldn't be a problem I guess: disconnect the shaft from the reverse gear, remove the prop and slide it out at the back. The skeg won't interefere with that.

Dear Eeast1, A bit late reaction but maybe helpfull for the next person with same question.
If you need a new shaft anyway you can remove the old one piece by piece by cutting it outside the boat, after shaft is out you can remove old rubber bearing. After removal you can put shaft in from outside easy past the skeg because of the large play without bearing. When shaft it in place you can slide new bearing over the shaft and gently bring it in position with a piece of tubing and a (rubber) hammer.

I too need to replace the cutlass bearing on my 1991 35S too. If I understand the information in this thread, the recommended solution is to remove the propeller, disconnect the shaft at the gearbox, pull the propeller shaft out the back and cut it in sections to fully remove it. Then with it out, you can remove the cutlass bearing easily. Then install the new propeller shaft, when it is in, install the new cutlass bearing, and then connect at the gearbox, and reinstall the propeller.

So here's my question. Where do you get a new propeller shaft and cutlass bearing? Are these standard parts that you can order? Are they standard measurement, etc?

Overhere you can buy these standard parts on every corner. You just have to take measurements of the old parts and order new ones. My description is complete and works ;-)
