Shaft Tube Bearings Contest 29 MK 2

Hello, i have a Contest 29 MK2. Does anybody know, if there are two bearings in the cube?
I have to replace it. Is it necessary to replace both or only the one in the near of teh propeller?
I would be very thankfull if you can help me.

Hello,

at our 29 MK1 there is one bearing right before the prop and the other one is the shaft seal itself. At first it was a greased seal with cords in it. The usual one. Now we have a water lubricated Volvo Seal which has a kind iof bearing in itself. Works perfectly. So, if the MkII is somewhat like the MkI, there should be no second bearing. by the way: Our shaft tube is some 30-35 cm long, the shaft itself is 90 cm. As far as I know the specs of the shaft include the maximum distance allowed without bearing. I think for the 25 mm shaft it is 60cm.

I bought a new water lubricated Volvo Seal. The old one was broken. There was no Problem to remove it. But as far as i can see, there is a second bearing in the tube. Do you think it is necessary to replace it? Because the ring of on the engineside of the tube is firmly. It is hard to open it. I don't want to destroy the whole tube, if it is not really necessary. I would only replace the one, near the propeller, which can be removed easily. What do you think?

In am not sure what you mean with tube. How about giving some pics?
Here you have two photo's. One at the location of the volvo and one outside at the propellor.
The outside bearing has been renewed as you can see.

Thank's for the pics.
The photos show the shaft tube ending near the engine. And here is my problem. You see, there is also a bearing in it. I don't know how to open this side of the tube. I tried to turn the whole ending, where also the waterpipe port is integrated, but it is firmly. I have to open it if i want to replace the bearing, because this way i can't pull it out. Do you think it is necessary to renew this bearing?

If i were the shaft, and I was guided in an bearing outside and there would be room to vibrate on the inside, I think I would do just that. Have the one on the outside removed entirely and see if there is any movement of more that 0,5-1 mm of the shaft possible in the inner bearing. If so, it needs replacing. I think Eric from Paperino told me about a similar problem. What he did: Push a new bearing in front or behind the old one. Don´t know if that worked. he told me in winter...

Another thought: Are you sure that these are two bearings and not a shaft tube as a whole that is a bearing throughout the entire tube? These do exist.

Yet another thought: Why not push the inner bearing out from the prop-side with a tube whose diameter fits just into the shaft tube?

I think it works, but haven't tried it yet because our C35/37 Paperino is still at the yard for a big refit.
In our case the extra bearing was in the middle of the shaft (1,65m long) and probably glued in with a kind of epoxy.
So now we have: 1 Volvoseal - 1 new (halfway) bearing made of GRP and rubber - (and the old one behind it) and at the end the last bearing made of brass and rubber.
