Question about contest 33
« on: 01 February, 2013, 00:50:05 »
Via een pb bereikte dit bericht ons. Ik plaats het hier even als een topic. Gaarne jullie reacties aan Phillip!

Hello,

I'm considering buying a 1973 Contest 33, and I'm looking for information about these boats.  From what I've read so far these were made well, but I'd be interested to know if the owners group has identified any common problems that I should look for.  I'm also curious if anyone has experienced problems with the keel/hull joint as these boats have aged.  I found an article by the designer which describes the layup method used by Conyplex on several of the Contest models:
http://www.dickzaalyachtdesign.nl/profile/technical_blog/grp_contest_keels.html

I was surprizd that the keel was laid up separately, and then joined to the hull.  It sounds like the method was well thought out and controlled, but I wonder if it could be a point of failure.  If you can put me in touch with someone who is willing to answer some of my questions, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you.

Hi Phillip,

I wrote an article about an C33 as used boat in german magazine YACHT. Well, obviously in german. You can download it here: http://www.wormsundwort.de/werk/yachten/

If that doesn´t help you due to anguage issues, you will find my contact details on the side. Just write an email.

Best regards

Alex

p.s.: Why would you change a C29 for a C33? Size doesn´t matter... ;-)))

The contest 29 is my boat, not the one of Phillip.
Anyway, as you stated before: It does not matter.

Philip,

I own a C33 (1972) and I am particularly happy about the keel - hull joint, the keel is fully integrated in the structure of the ship.
It is one of the things I like most about this particular model.

I cannot say that I am aware of any particular problem of the C33.

Even though I am sometimes looking at more modern ships, time and time again I come to the conclusion that the C33 is build more heavily and that the interior is more charming...

Good luck!
