Contest 30 serie 1 internal mast support
« on: 08 September, 2006, 00:42:33 »

I?m restoring Trisana, a Contest 30 serie 1 from 1969, near Barcelona. I think about installing a support under the mast because the deck is cracking and the wooden basis starts to bend. She sails good (for the moment about 400 miles with no problems) but I think a mast basis would strength the stucture.
It would be very useful for me to have some technical advice from anybody with other Contest 30 or similar that has done the same with good results.

Excuse me for not writing dutch.

I have the same issue on my boat but I haven't found the time to repair it. Actually I've been sailing around with this the last 5 years and it didn't get worse. However I don't believe that the solution is an extra support under the hast since, in my case, there doesn't seem to be any cracking or misforming of the roof on the inside of the boat. In my opinion it's a 'problem' in the space between the inner and the outershell of the cabin at the point where the mast is positioned. It is my intention to remove the maststep on the roof, cut the outer shell of the roof open and verify te space between the shells. Perhaps it is possible to fill it up with a HQ piece of wood.
Would be nice if someone could provide the drawings of this oldy  ;)

Thanks BJ for your advice.
I still think about fitting a mast support. In my case I have a little misforming and I need a solution.
Next week I?ll think about.
Today I?m finishing a new fiberglass water tank to replace the original old one.
