C33-watertank repareren of vervangen?
« on: 23 July, 2010, 22:49:20 »

Hoor graag reacties!

Hello JF,

in my C36 all three tanks had leakage. Unfortunately the shipyard made this tanks out of galvanzied steel (stainless steel was available only as extra). So it is only a question of time when the first leakage will come up. As I saw the condition of the used material in my boat I decided to throw the old tanks out. Repair of rosty iron in these dimension makes not really sense. The dismantling was not a big problem and took for all three tanks only one day. The next step was cleaning and painting... but the real question followed immediately: what kind of replacement should be installed and (a question of honesty) how much capacity should have the new tanks!? I decided to install two plastic tanks with a capacity of 90 l each. The third one I dropped. So now I have 180 l of total water capacity (before 450 l) and more room for other things underneath the seats.
Quick done, inexpensive and a clean solution!

Stevie, thanks!

Got them both out this afternoon. Easily done. One of them was actualily fine, but got it out anyway. I'm replacing them with flexible tanks, a little bigger as well.

So much for fixing the deairing of the port tank....

greetings!

Make sure you support the new flexible tanks with, prefferably isolating, material. Otherwise they might get damaged during sailing in rough weather. Also you might have a look at HDPE, several companies can make customsized models at reasonable prices.

Hi Steve, no personal recommendations since it is all pretty custom work. Best thing to do is Google a bit and ask for estimates... al lot of them.. ;)

Wij hadden hetzelfde probleem in 2003.

@ paperino

sounds very interesting. Have you still in mind how much you had to pay (more or less)?
You gave the old tanks as origanal to copy or you had same drawings? Haw long you had to wait
for the new tanks?

Thanks,

Stevie,

We paiyed appr. € 2000 in 2004. That was for 4 tanks. (2x water / 240 liters - 2 x Diesel 120 / 60 liters). They used our old tanks as model. The tanks were incl. 1 diesel tanklevel meter (WEMA)  and two level indicators for the watertanks (WEMA) , all the hoses, clamps etc. The tanks are made of 10mm thick PE and have 2 or 3 separations (the big ones have 3).
Deliverytime in 2004 was (in the wintertime) 6-7 weeks, but we had time because the boat was out of the water that days.

If you want more information: www.drocom.nl
They will help you.

Regards,

Eric.

Thank you ver much, that will help a lot.
I will go in contact with this company later in the winter. The pricing seems to be very fair.
I am planning to change my diesel tank (160l) and (probably) my 2 watertanks 220 l each.
Currently I have only 80l water (standard plastic) tanks for each side.
It is only a interim solution because it seems to be insufficient in terms of water capacity.

Thanks again,
stevie

Stevie,

any problems with the flexible tanks? You can get bigger or extra ones in (and have them linked). Much easier and a lot cheaper....!

I don´t have flexible tanks in my boat. I installed two 80l standard hard plastic tanks, but it seems
that the capacity is´nt sufficient for one weekend and 3-4 people on board.
So I am thinking about to change it.
But the major problem at the moment is my diesel tank. He is still without leakage but I don´t trust the galvanized tank and even worse I toolk a look inside the tank and was wondering that the engine
had never problems: There were somewhat of thick slime on the tank surfaces inside. In german these occurance is called "Dieselpest". I cleaned the tank as best as possible and additionally I used a bottle of Grotamar as a prevensive use, but I am still with doubths. For my point of view the best solution will be a complete change including tank and all other parts (filter, cock and hoses) .
I will do this job in the winter.

I'll second that. We now have 2X 150L and that's more like it....

About the fueltank. I'm (also) very curious in what state ours is. It's a stainless steel tank, and I think it's original. Looks good though. The real question is what the inside of the tank looks like... I'm thinking about replacing it for a standard polyprop tank. Just to be sure....
